Mrs. Karen Glennon - Spotlight on Success

Atchison has been my home since I was fourteen years old.  I am a graduate of Atchison High School.  I earned an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Missouri Western State College and a Master's Degree in Education Policy and Leadership from the University of Kansas.

I was fortunate to have been hired as a fourth grade teacher at Washington Elementary School in the fall of 1983.  I continued teaching fourth grade at Atchison Elementary School until five years ago when I became the Success For All Facilitator at AES.

When I was a first year teacher, I joined ANEA.  My mother was a member of the organization and there was never any question about whether I would join or not.  I felt it was the professional thing to do.

After being a teacher for almost thirty years, I have witnessed many changes.  One thing that has always remained constant is the support the organization provides to the members of our profession.

I have served as a President of our local association and have been on the Negotiations committee for several years.  I have been fortunate to have worked with and learned from outstanding teachers in Atchison and in our UniServ district.  I have participated in many educational opportunities offered by KNEA.

Just like any other organization, ANEA needs the talents of every one of its members.  The participation of each member strengthens the group as a whole.

My daughter, Carly, also a graduate of Atchison High School, is a student in the education program at KU.  She will begin student teaching in the fall.  Just last month, she paid her dues to join the student NEA organization.  Believe me, I have explained to her the importance of being in NEA and the rewards and responsibility that membership brings.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Karen Glennon
